Scarlet Witch Quicksilver Avengers Costumes Revealed Elizabeth Olsen: Scarlet Witch is Out of Her Mind in The Avengers 2
In chatting with moviefone, Olsen spoke again about the experience of shooting their first Marvel Studios movie, teasing how her powers work during action sequences.
“It’s so fun. I’m laughing all the time. The crazy thing is that it’s like, I’m throwing sh*t with my hands, that’s cuckoo! But it’s also like, We’re saving lives. And it’s very serious. There’s always that reminder that it’s very serious.”
At this point, it’s still unclear of what powers Olsen’s version of Scarlet Witch has. From interviews over the last year, dating back to before she officially joined Age of Ultron, she’s talked about playing a “messed up” character and from her own research reading the comics, she highlighted the interesting idea of being able to“communicate with paranormal things and the past and the future and other universes; like to me that’s pretty incredible! [Laughs] Like just thinking about that is amazing! To touch things and know where they’ve been, that’s crazy!”
Whedon also said at the time that Scarlet Witch can “weave spells and a little telekinesis, get inside your head,” and from our only official footage of her on screen (at the end of Captain America 2), we can only confirm that she is at least telekinetic. That’s likely not all though, since she could not only be tossing physical objects from the environment, but could be firing Hex Bolts at enemies, which are essentially spells.
In the film, Scarlet Witch will be partially out of control according to what she toldCover Media, which hints at some interesting plot points from the comics, where she’s one of the more over-powered characters who has the ability to alter probability and hence, change reality.
“My character is incredible and absolutely out of her mind. [She's] incredibly passionate and thinks she’s in control more than she actually is. She’s stubborn and an epic woman who has not been created by a human yet.”
And according to Whedon, the new additions will ”f*** with The Avengers” – whether they enlist as full-fledged members during the course of The Avengers: Age of Ultronremains to be seen, but the team is growing (see: Paul Bettany playing Vision) andsome characters may not live through the film. When prodded about the possibility of officially joining the hero roster and getting their own superhero costumes, Olsen responded by stating ”we’re not part of the team, so it’s not the same thing.”
Whedon does however describe the pair as “super heroes” so like the comics, we can expect their questionable pasts and/or actions to be redeemed and if not in this movie, down the road, the pair (if they both survive) will be fighting alongside Captain America, Iron Man, Hulk and Thor.
