Review: Sherlock is back with a Christmas Special

Beginning the new year with a fan favorite, Steve Moffat and Mark Gatiss dazzle us with the astonishing performance and screenplay which is Sherlock. This show has gained a very steady following and if I must say is incredibly satisfying, Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman were as exceptional as usual and the whole story bordered on the creepy side but we are definitely not complaining because as it turns out, it was all a dream.

This Christmas special was a treat to loyal fans who have been waiting for another glance at their favorite consulting detective in action and answers to some disturbing yet amusing questions that the last scene of the last season posed. The steady pace at which the episode developed was very intriguing even though it seemed like the same old story in the beginning while steadily drawing us in with every scene and every wise crack by both Sherlock and Watson. I thought the Victorian Sherlock was a tad bit bratty and a little bit more arrogant that the 21st century Sherlock and the Watson was rather daft but had his charms, he was very dismissive of women contrary to his 21st century self and a lot less of an husband to Mary. The Sherlock/Watson Victorian era relationship often felt more like a master/servant relationship assuming the servant is allowed to say whatever he wanted and go wherever he wanted.

The abominable bride story-line was well founded and well played out even though it was all in Sherlock's mind and his very obsessive pursuit of the case led him back to drugs which we all know is very bad for him and almost ODing is even worse. I have always known that Mycroft loved Sherlock very much and was willing to do most things for him but we have never seen this side of him before; a big brother so terribly concerned for his little brother that we could see the worry on his face when he begged John to look after his brother.

Also bummer, Moriarty isn't coming back and I am one of the fans that are probably screaming their heads out. I mean you guys had to go and make our mouths water only to dash our hope of ever see the very compelling nemesis again; Moriarty was the villain of all villains and he was the consulting criminal for heaven's sake and where are we going to find another villain like him, Magnison was good but he was no Sherlock so you guys had better come up with something more special for the 4th season Pleasssssssss.

The episode was spectacular, if you haven't seen it, you should.
